Save a Trail Day: Riser Lake
It is time for the 3rd Annual Save-A-Trail Work Party!
The Methow Valley Trails Collaborative (MVTC) is heading to Riser Lake to improve the trails that are being loved to death by avid users. This area is close to Winthrop and provides many of us with an early season option for getting up high to view the fabulous Methow Valley. The land is managed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Sections of the current trail are not sustainably built and every year see more damage in areas that are too steep or too wet to maintain current use.
We will be working on improving the loop trail around Riser Lake in a few wet sections and one steep section during one day of work on Sunday, May 19th.
- 8:00am: meet at the Riser Lake/Lewis Butte parking area. To reach that parking area from Winthrop take the West Chewuch Road 1 mile to Rendezvous Road and turn left, take Rendezvous Road 1 mile to Gunn Ranch Road turn left and drive 1/2 mile to the parking area on the left. Feel free to park alongside Gunn Ranch Road if the parking lot is full.
- 8:30-4:00pm: Work party!
- 4:00-6:00pm: Free BBQ with beer, drinks, and treats!
Bring clothes to get dirty in, work gloves (we'll have some to lend as well), and boots. We will be building new trail (everyone's favorite). If you want to bring your favorite tools that is fine otherwise tools will be available as well. Bring your own water, food and sunscreen. At the end of the day we will celebrate with a free BBQ, beer and other beverages and treats. Stay for the day or as long as you like. This will be a very fun event with lots of representatives from all organizations helping out! Plus the wildflowers are incredible! Kids are welcome to come too!
This effort is partially funded by a grant from the Methow Fund of the Community Foundation of North-Central Washington and by theWashington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The MVTC consists of Methow Trails, Methow Conservancy, Backcountry Horsemen, Evergreen Mtn Bike Alliance, WTA and Methow Valley Ranger District, WDFW, Washington State Parks, Methow Valley Snowmobile Association, Rendezvous Huts, Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, Methow Valley Grooming Association, and Okanogan County.
